MGIMO presents a course on the Coursera platform «Political Geography», developed by Associate Professor of the Comparative Political Studies Department I. Yu. Okunev.

The course is designed to study political science, international relations, foreign regional studies as it provides a systemic idea of a comprehensive structure of all levels of political processes and their key elements: states, organizational integration, geopolitical systems, regions, borders, capitals, dependent and international territories.

Political and geographical knowledge forms the basis for theories which explain the behavior and activity of a state at home and abroad.

The knowledge of principles and techniques of spatial analysis helps discover certain patterns of political processes on a global, regional and local levels.

The course is aimed to build understanding of a political map of the world and its elements, as well as basic patterns of space influencing the political processes nationally and internationally.
