February 28th - March 2nd, students of MGIMO and the British Higher School of Art and Design specialized in “Strategic Marketing and Management” and “Management in the Fashion Industry” went in the framework of their Fashion Week in Paris module abroad, on a visit of the historic Guerlain Fashion House, one of the main brands of the largest luxury conglomerate in the industry: LVMH.

During their time at the mansion on the Champs Elysees, the students discovered the history and marketing strategy of Guerlain today, experienced first hand the atmosphere of the House and its heritage, satisfied their curiosity regarding the upcoming development prospects of the company and found out about the bee support program it sponsors as part of a global environmental initiative.

The meeting was organized by a Graduate of MGIMO’s School of Business Daria Longley-Sinitsyna and the students were accompanied on their visit by Daria Yadernaya, the MBA program supervisor.

During their time in Paris, the students visited the leading fashion trade show Tranoi: Premiere Classe, as well as several showrooms presenting the work of Russian and foreign designers.

March 2nd, as the trip came to a close, the MBA students met with the Head of the Trade Representation of Russia in France M.Makarov.

The informal meeting was hosted in the historic mansion, which houses the Trade Representation. M.Makarov described to the students the activities of the Trade Mission, spoke about the different ways entrepreneurs can promote their goods and services on foreign markets, including in France. The host remarked that while there is a fairly high level of bureaucratization for businesses, the country is financially stable and there are good prospects for Russian firms to develop their activities in France.

Participants asked about the possibilities of organizing events and business meetings within the embassy and about the help, which could be provided by the Trade Representation in negotiations and in performing an initial market analysis to identify development prospects.

The Head of the Trade Representation noted that all companies, regardless of their size, have great prospects for development on the French market, as there is an untapped potential with unsatisfied demand in niche markets and the need for more flexible small firms.
