«Art and Culture Management» Master’s Programme: Léontine Meijer-van Mensch on the latest tendencies in museum practical activity

On June 24, there was an online lecture led by the director of the State Ethnographical Collections of Saxony, Léontine Meijer-van Mensch. The topic was «The Latest Tendencies in Museum Practical Activities: A New Museological Perspective».

On June 24, there was an online lecture led by the director of the State Ethnographical Collections of Saxony, Léontine Meijer-van Mensch. The topic was «The Latest Tendencies in Museum Practical Activities: A New Museological Perspective».

The meeting with Léontine Meijer-van Mensch continued the cycle of lectures on classical and contemporary art, art business and creative management as part of the new master’s programme «Art and Culture Management» by MGIMO and CNAM (National Conservatory of Arts and Crafts, France).

Léontine Meijer-van Mensch is the director of the State Ethnographical Collections of Saxony (i.e. the ethnographical museums of Dresden, Leipzig and Herrnhut). Previously, she was programme-director of the Jewish Museum Berlin, deputy-director of the Museum of European Cultures at Berlin, and lecturer of heritage theory and professional ethics at the Reinwardt Academie, Amsterdam. She is active in the boards of several (international) museum organizations. In 2010-2016 she was president of the International Committee for Collecting, and in 2016-2020 member of the Executive Board of the International Council of Museums.

During the lecture, the speaker talked about her experience of managing the museum and interacting with other cultural institutions.

Some of the topics that were brought up at the lecture included modern trends in the development of museums, including the topic of digitalization and the use of virtual reality technologies.

Léontine Meijer-van Mensch answered a number of questions related to a career in museum management and recommended a number of books on museum activities and cultural management.
