Management in the fashion industry

Understanding the trends of modern fashion and understand the strategy of business development is important and necessary for the effective management of a company operating in the field of design and the fashion industry. Training focuses on mastering of technologies, techniques and mechanisms that facilitate an effective design and management of business processes and organizations in the fashion industry.

The «Management in the fashion industry» program is implemented jointly with the British Higher School of Design.

The MBA program «Management in the Fashion Industry» is a unique combination of methodology and classical approach to MBA education here at MGIMO, practical experience and creative approach, as well as the atmosphere of entrepreneurship of the British Higher School of Design.

The Program is designed for a wide range of listeners. It will help to improve the skills of the fashion industry specialists as well as mid and top-level managers. The knowledge and skills acquired at this Program will become the basis of applied knowledge for business owners, starting from sewing enterprises and textile distributors, retailers and designers to stylists, image-makers and journalists, fashion houses, personal shoppers, will give a serious theoretical basis to already working in the fashion industry professionals. At the same time, the program will be useful for those who make their first steps in the fashion industry, it will teach them how to professionally understand the history and trends of modern fashion help understand what makes up an individual style and how business fashion is built in Russia and abroad. The training will also fit specialist retraining from related or other industries who wish to switch their primary activity to the fashion industry.

Academic supervisor — Daria Yadernaya, CEO of the international consulting company in the fashion industry Y Consulting, member of the Presidium of the Russian Chamber of Fashion. Since 2010, she has been managing the development of the Anton Heunis brand in Russia and the CIS. From 2013 to 2016, she was involved in the regional development of the Thierry Lasry brand. In 2014 and 2015, she led the business program of Mercedes Benz Fashion Week Russia.

The purpose of the module is to develop an understanding among the listeners about the functioning of the financial environment of the business, and to teach how to use the most effective methods and tools for developing, testing and implementing the organization's strategy.

Site Visit Overseas Module (optional)

Upon completion of the program, students will

  • Understand the essence and features of the processes taking place in the foreign economic activity;
  • Achieve the most advanced management technologies considering the specifics of logistics processes;
  • Form effective development strategies;
  • Apply modern international management experience.

Students will also have the opportunity to interact with the industry leaders, which will allow them to learn about management practices of some of the best Russian and foreign companies first hand. During the study of business cases students will learn how to solve real world practical tasks when running a company. The Program includes a site visit to an actual industrial facility.

Certificate of Education

Students who successfully complete the MBA Program receive a Master of Business Administration degree with a specialization in «Management in the fashion industry».

Program cost — 800,000 RUB for the entire period of study. Payment is made by semester.

Program format — weekend-format (20 months) — once per month (Thursday through Sunday 9:30 – 20:00)

Admission requirements:

  • Higher education degree
  • At least 25 years of age
  • At least 3 years of managerial experience
  • Applicant must have a leadership potential and a strong motivation to learn

Selection process for the MBA program

Stage 1

  • Registration

  • Essay on a given topic

Stage 2

  • Solving of a business-case
  • Testing of English language skills

Stage 3

  • Interview with the supervisor of the program
  • Enrollment decision

Dates of the selection and the start of the Program.

The groups’ formation terminates 2 weeks before the start of training.
